PST LA/LA: MOCA presents Anna Maria Maiolino walking on eggs, stitching threads, and entering holes

Moca brings another Brazilian artist to our attention.  Anna Maria Maiolino like Lygia Pape and Marisa Merz marched, stitched, carved, painted, sculpted, performed and wrote to her own drum. Her political art has taken women's work, women's bodies, women's anger, women's role as mothers and wives as their subjects in a consistently imaginative way. Very much of her time (see related Hammer Museum post above), Maiolino allowed herself to explore each medium with a fresh eye.  Also represented in the Hammer exhibition, she joins a parade of talented women with heightened awareness of their place in the world who bring our attention to the ways in which we our often our own worst enemies.
